We watched this Lesser Adjutant Stork getting breakfast in the mud on the edge of the estuary leading up to Danga Bay. It was a big bird with a distinctive yellow neck. We saw two like it later near Port Klang in December. This species is widely distributed from India to Vietnam to Indonesia and was common but is now threatened by hunting and habitat loss. Recent estimates indicate a rapidly decreasing total population of 6500 - 8000 and a Malaysian population of 500 birds. |
